Dr. Richard E. Boyd Jr., better known as “Dr. Reb,” is ecstatic to join the team at Boyd Orthodontics and welcome patients to the office! Dr. Reb grew up in Columbia, where he watched his father create beautiful smiles across the midlands. Dr. Boyd’s influence fueled Dr. Reb’s passion for orthodontics, and it became their goal to work alongside each other.
Dr. Reb is a proud graduate of Hammond School and Furman University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Sports Science. During high school and college, Dr. Reb worked at Boyd Orthodontics as a lab technician and orthodontic assistant; after college, he attended the James B. Edwards School of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was lucky enough to not only earn his Doctorate in Dental Medicine but also meet his wife, Dr. Ali Byrd Boyd, while at MUSC. They were married in 2021 in her hometown of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Dr. Reb completed his orthodontic residency at Tufts University. While he and his wife Ali loved their time in Boston and the Northeast, they are excited to be back in the South and closer to their families (and sweet tea!). Dr. Reb and Dr. Ali are settling into their new home in Blythewood, SC, and enjoy spending time with family, friends, and their beloved British lab, Lilly.
In his free time, Dr. Reb enjoys spending time on the water, boating or scuba diving, playing cards with his wife, and cooking! He and his wife have recently mastered sushi making, so ask him at your next appointment what kind of rolls they have been making.
